Respite Care

The Otsego County Commission on Aging offers respite care for caregivers both in-the-home through the In-Home Services staff, and on-site at the Otsego Haus Adult Day Services program.

The OCCOA In-Home Service Department provides respite care to eligible older adults in Otsego County (60 years of age or older) with our current staff of 11 service providers helping over 250 clients. Respite care is a key to helping caregivers handle both the physical and emotional stresses of caregiving. Typically, donation-based services are available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., for those who qualify. Frequency of service is determined by need, as assessed by our Medical Resource Coordinator.

The OCCOA also offers respite care on a fee-for-service basis for those needing more time than is available on a donation-basis. Rates are affordable at the prevailing market average, and accommodations can be made for both evenings and weekends. Because of the need to schedule staff for non-business hours, arrangements must be made in advance for fee-for-service respite care.
