Volunteer Opportunties

The Otesgo County Commission on Aging currently has the following volunteer job opportunities available:

New Volunteer Opportunities:

Friendly Visitors
The OCCOA is looking for people who would enjoy visiting with older adults and persons living with disabilities a couple times a month for an hour at a time.  This is a wonderful way to add meaning and joy to others' lives. Training will be provided and every attempt will be made to match you up with an older friend who might share one or two of your interests.  To be considered for this volunteer position, please complete a Volunteer Registration Packet and submit it to the OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator as instructed. Questions? Please contact the OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator at (989) 748-4065.

Pianist for the Alpine Kitchen Band
The OCCOA is looking for an experienced pianist to accompany its Alpine Kitchen Band.  This is a great opportunity for pianists who prefer to play "by ear" and who are retired, or who have a flexible schedule.  The group meets once a month for one hour (from about 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.) to rehearse and then once a week for the remainder of each month at various community nursing homes, which include Aspen Ridge, McReynolds Hall, Otsego Haus, and Tendercare.  To be considered for this volunteer position, please complete a Volunteer Registration Packet and submit it to the OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator as instructed. Questions? Please contact the OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator at (989) 748-4065.

Tax Preparers
The OCCOA is looking for individuals with experience in state and federal tax return preparation to assist with the agency's Free Tax Assistance Program for 2015. This is a program that serves lower-income individuals living in Northern Michigan through the IRS and is known as the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program. Online training is available to become a certified VITA volunteer. The program generally runs between February through April 15th. Flexible scheduling is possible. This is an excellent way to help those who are not able to afford paid tax preparation services, and an excellent volunteer opportunity for retired tax preparers. To be considered for a volunteer position, please complete a Volunteer Registration Packet and submit it to the OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator as instructed. Questions? Please contact the OCCOA Volunteer Coordinator at (989) 748-4065.
